The immorality of New York

In April, another ambitious hustler, socialite scammer, and fake German heiress Anna Sorokin, known as Anna Delvey, was found guilty of most of the charges against her, including over $200,000-worth of fraud. For comparison, it’s worth remembering the magnitude of Mary Boone’s tax fraud, which amounted to paying $335 in federal taxes when in fact she owed over $1.2m in 2011 alone. The difference is that Sorokin, who became known as the Soho Grifter, was an arriviste, while Boone was a veteran of some five decades: the art world looks after its own.
