On A Cloud
With On, the hills are alive in Art Basel.
If you’ve arrived in Basel, you already know. The next few days will be filled with long hauls through whitespaces, conversations about the museums of the future, and drinks with someone who shows promise. Do the time constraints, gossip, and obligations already make you feel dizzy? Are you perhaps fantasizing about a bit of down time when you can be quiet and explore what’s outside?
For their continued partnership with Art Basel, Swiss sports brand On has created a series of 90-minute guided walks around Basel’s historic district. Entitled “Walks of Life,” visitors can experience On’s Cloudaway urban outdoor shoe and its unique cloud technology as they stroll through Art Basel’s Parcours Sector with curator Gianni Jetzer. All walks will begin at the On Structure sculpture on Messeplatz at the following times:
Wednesday 15 June at 10:00 and at 17:00
Thursday 16 June at 10:00 and at 17:00
Friday 17 June only at 14:00
Saturday 18 June at 10:00 and 17:00
Sunday 19 June only at 10:00.
Advance registration is required for these walks. To register, click here.
Decided to skip Basel this year? Then explore the Alps, wetlands, or a tropical forest on On’s cloudaway.com, where Spike designer Bureau Borsche has created a digital landscape that leads us through mountain flowers, a marsh, or ferns to the ambient sounds of Jonas Imbery & Benedikt Wiessmeier, Rodinia, or Luis Clara Gomes. Each of these gorgeous soundtracks blend with natural sounds from Art Basel’s three locations – Basel, Miami, and Hong Kong – and gently pushes the listener forward. The sound walks are motion activated and only play while you walk. If you stop to smell the flowers, the music will give you a small break to relish the scent.
Need a longer break away from it all? Then strap on your Ons and march along with the words of William Wordsworth:
I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o’er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
