Although brands and designers are today pursuing ever more radical rategies, the runway show is the centrepiece of the fashion world, even in our virtualised present. But it is also, just as when it began in the 19th century, a symptom of its time: the techniques that designers use were then as now a response to the acceleration of life, only the speeds are not the same.
