Bertolt Brecht’s line “In the dark times/Will there be singing? Yes, there will also be singing/About the dark times.” has become one of those of bite-size quotations that flares up on Twitter each time it is discovered anew. In the meantime, musicians are hard at work composing the soundtrack for the end times in which we live. Among this year’s standouts is Blanck Mass’s new album Animated Mild Violence , battle music for the destructive fantasies of a humanity that is collapsing under the weight of its own dreams.
