“Did you know that in Germany, even after the war, it was unusual to sit in public parks – and that changed only with immigration? Or that until the 1950s there were no pizzerias in Germany, and no aubergines until the 60s? And have you ever heard of the wildcat strike at the Ford factory in Cologne in 1973, which was organised primarily by migrant labourers against the will of the metalworkers’ union? If you haven’t, that points to one of the problems that arise from this idea of migration as something extrinsic. Let us, then, make the initial question more specific. Is migration the only really successful revolution nobody knows about?”
