Round Table: The Death and Life of the Art Gallery

The art-world bubble may now be shrinking again, but not everyone was a winner while it lasted. A spate of recent closures suggest that the gallery model is under increasing pressure. Expensive art fairs and online sales have become more important, the rent for exhibition spaces is too high. Museums expect financial support from galleries for exhibitions of their artists, and loyalty and working together over the long term can no longer be taken for granted.

Jean-Claude Freymond-Guth, who until recently ran a gallery in Basel; Vanessa Carlos co-founder of Carlos/Ishikawa in London; and Kevin Rubén Jacobs, who just opened Pushkin & Gogol in Berlin, talked the situation over in a conversation at Spike. Moderated by Kito Nedo.
