Spike is happy to host the launch of “Prototypes”
By Doireann O’Malley
Published by Sternberg Press & Edith-Russ-Haus für Medienkunst
With a conversation between the artist and Lou Drago, moderated by Zoë Harris of Sternberg Press, followed by a playlist featuring music from the film by Armin Lorenz Gerold.
The publication is based on Doireann O’Malley's multi-screen film installation “Prototypes”, which won the Berlin Art Prize in 2018. In the work, the artist created a series of dreamscapes interrogating trans* semiotics through psychoanalytic practices, speculative technologies and live action role-playing. O’Malley’s work references scientific and medical investigations into the human psyche that address wider philosophical concerns relating to biology, gender embodiment, sexuality, utopianism and biomolecular advancement in human evolution.
