Artist Talk: Jonathan Monk

For our first artist talk of 2024 at Soho House Berlin, Jonathan Monk dived deep into an oeuvre that has recast and re-examined seminal works of Conceptual and Minimal art by variously witty, ingenious, and irreverent means. His work frequently questions the art world’s conventional means of controlling value and distribution, as in “Restaurant Drawings,” (2015–) a series of sketches on receipts, usually of canonical works from Western art history, that he sells to a bidder on Instagram for the price of his meal.
