Can It or Can It Not Be?
For our 10th artist talk at Soho House Berlin, Jonathan Monk dove into an oeuvre that has recast and re-examined seminal works of Conceptual and Minimal art by variously witty, ingenious, and irreverent means, such as his “Restaurant Drawings,” (2015–) a series of sketches on receipts, usually of canonical works from Western art history, that he sells to a bidder on Instagram for the price of his meal.
